Boothworld Industries
I still don't know whether what happened to me was part of some elaborate internet prank or something far stranger. Years ago, I received a phone call from a company calling itself **Boothworld Industries**. The man on the other end sounded completely calm, almost robotic. Without introducing himself, he simply asked, "Would you like us to remodel your life?" I laughed because I thought it was some weird telemarketing scam, but he continued speaking as if he hadn't heard me. He explained that Boothworld specialized in removing people from their clients' lives. The way he said it was so casual that it made my stomach drop. Before I could ask what he meant, the line went dead.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I searched the name online. To my surprise, I found dozens of old forum posts from people describing nearly identical phone calls. Some had discovered phone numbers supposedly connected to Boothworld Industries, so I decided to call one. Instead of ringing normally, I was greeted by a distorted recording that mentioned "remodel requests" before abruptly disconnecting. That sent me down a rabbit hole of hidden websites, cryptic employee directories, and strange messages that seemed to disappear whenever I tried showing them to someone else. Every answer only led to more questions, and it slowly stopped feeling like someone was simply trolling the internet.
To this day, I have no idea whether Boothworld Industries was just one of the most convincing alternate reality games ever created or something that blurred the line between fiction and reality. Most of the websites have vanished, and many of the phone numbers no longer work, but every few years someone posts online claiming they got the same call I did. Maybe they're making it up, maybe they're continuing the legend, or maybe the company is still out there. I just know that if my phone ever rings again and I hear that same calm voice asking if I'd like my life "remodeled," I'm hanging up immediately.
