CERN AND THE PORTAL THEORY
The first time CERN really started feeling strange was when I came across theories claiming the Large Hadron Collider wasn't simply being used to study particles. According to the conspiracy, experiments at CERN could be doing something far more ambitious, with some people believing the enormous amounts of energy involved could somehow affect the structure of reality itself.
One version of the theory focuses on the possibility of creating microscopic black holes or opening some kind of doorway between dimensions. The idea is that particles being smashed together at extreme energies could produce conditions never naturally created on Earth, potentially allowing something from another dimension to interact with ours. Scientists have repeatedly rejected the idea that the LHC poses such a danger, but that hasn't stopped the theory from spreading.
Then there are the stranger details that keep appearing around CERN. The organization has a famous statue of Shiva outside its headquarters, its experiments involve energies that sound almost unimaginable, and the laboratory has become a magnet for theories about portals, alternate realities and even the possibility that the universe could somehow be altered by its experiments. None of those claims establish that CERN is actually opening portals or changing reality, but they have turned the world's most powerful particle physics laboratory into one of the biggest targets for modern conspiracy theories.
