Old Skin (Shared Dream)
Years ago, my sister woke up visibly disturbed after having one of the strangest nightmares she'd ever experienced. She said it wasn't the usual random dream where everything changes every few seconds, it felt incredibly coherent, almost like watching a slow, unsettling film. The dream centered around an old, frail man everyone simply called **Old Skin**. He wandered through a dead forest while speaking in a completely flat, emotionless voice, calmly describing what was about to happen to him. Eventually a pack of wolves surrounded him, and instead of trying to escape, he continued narrating every detail as they attacked him. My sister said the most horrifying part wasn't what she saw, it was how detached his voice remained, as if he were reading instructions instead of describing his own death.
The next morning she came downstairs looking exhausted and immediately started telling my brother about the nightmare over breakfast. She barely got through the first sentence before mentioning the name "Old Skin." My brother suddenly froze, stared at her for a few seconds, and interrupted. "Don't tell me the rest," he said. Then, almost word for word, he described the exact same dream. The old man, the dead forest, the wolves, even the monotone narration while he was being torn apart. He also knew the man's name was Old Skin, despite insisting he'd never heard that name before in his life. My sister was convinced he was joking until he started finishing details she hadn't even gotten to yet.
Neither of them had talked about dreams before going to bed, watched the same movie, or read anything remotely similar beforehand. The name itself was so bizarre and specific that it didn't sound like something either of them would have invented independently. Even years later, they both tell the story exactly the same way. My brother still insists he can hear the man's voice if he thinks about the dream for too long, and my sister refuses to say the name out loud after dark. I've heard plenty of stories about shared dreams, but I've never come across one where two people independently remembered the same unknown character, with the same name, the same setting, and the same ending, all on the very same night.
