The Nun's House
When I was 16 or 17 years old, I used to help the village priest by preparing the church for masses and helping with different tasks.
Right next to the church there was a school, and inside the school grounds there was an old house that had been abandoned for quite some time. Years earlier, nuns had lived there. Nowadays, it has been turned into the parish house, but back then it was an empty, forgotten building that most people avoided.
One night, the priest asked me to go with an electrician to check the wiring and repair the electricity inside the house.
So I went with him.
When we entered, the place immediately felt unsettling. The house was old and silent, with the kind of emptiness that makes every small sound feel louder. Inside there was a long hallway filled with small rooms and old beds, almost like a row of sleeping areas where the nuns had once stayed.
Walking through that hallway was disturbing. It felt like we were walking through a place that was not meant to be entered anymore.
The electrician worked on the wiring while I waited nearby. Eventually, he finished repairing the electricity, and we decided it was time to leave.
As we walked back through the hallway, neither of us said much. We just wanted to get outside.
When we reached the door, the electrician stepped out, and I turned around to close it behind us.
The moment the door shut, we heard it.
A woman's voice.
Clear and close.
"Get out of here."
Both of us froze.
The electrician slowly turned and looked at me. For a few seconds, neither of us moved.
Then he quietly asked:
"Did you hear that?"
I told him yes.
We didn't question it. We didn't go back inside to check. We quickly turned off the lights, locked the house, and left as fast as we could.
When we returned to the priest, we told him exactly what had happened.
But his reaction was strange.
He didn't look surprised. He didn't ask questions. He didn't tell us we were imagining things.
He simply changed the subject.
That was it.
For years, people in the village have whispered that a nun supposedly hanged herself inside that house. However, nobody ever talks about the details. There are no official records or news reports about it, and anyone who knows more seems unwilling to explain.
What always bothered me was the priest's reaction.
It was almost as if he already knew what happened there.
As if hearing that woman's voice wasn't something new.
As if it was something that had happened before.
