The Security Camera Caught Me Leaving Twice
The police thought I was covering for someone.
I couldn't blame them.
If I heard this story from someone else, I probably wouldn't believe it either.
I installed a security camera outside my house after a few things started going missing.
Nothing valuable.
Just small things.
A garden tool.
A package that had already been delivered.
A pair of shoes I left outside my door.
I assumed it was a neighbor or some random person walking through the area.
So I bought a camera and pointed it directly at my front entrance.
The first few nights showed nothing.
No strangers.
No suspicious activity.
Then I checked the footage from Thursday night.
At 2:14 AM, I saw my front door open.
I watched myself walk outside.
Same clothes I had been wearing earlier.
Same face.
Same movements.
I stood on my porch for almost thirty seconds, looking directly into the camera.
Then I walked away.
I immediately looked around my house.
I was inside.
Sleeping.
At least, that's what I thought.
I checked my bedroom.
I was alone.
I convinced myself the footage was fake or corrupted.
Maybe the camera had glitched.
Then the next night, it happened again.
2:14 AM.
The front door opened.
I walked outside.
Except this time, I didn't walk away.
I turned around and looked back into the house.
Then I said something.
The camera audio was terrible, but I enhanced it.
I heard my voice clearly.
"He's starting to notice."
I stopped watching.
I called the police.
They arrived, checked the camera, and searched the property.
They found nothing.
The officer asked me a question that made my stomach drop.
"Do you have anyone else living here?"
I said no.
He turned the monitor toward me.
The footage was still playing.
The timestamp was wrong.
The second video wasn't from last night.
It was from tomorrow.
I thought he was joking.
He wasn't.
The camera system had recorded something that hadn't happened yet.
The police took the footage as evidence.
I stayed at a hotel that night.
I didn't want to be in the house.
At 2:14 AM, my phone received a notification.
Motion detected.
I opened the camera app.
The live feed showed my front door.
It was opening.
Slowly.
Then someone stepped outside.
It was me.
Except I wasn't wearing the clothes from the previous recordings.
I watched as my double looked directly into the camera.
Then it raised its hand.
Not waving.
Pointing.
Behind the camera.
At something standing out of frame.
The video ended.
The next morning, I went back to my house with the police.
The front door was unlocked.
Inside, everything was exactly how I left it.
Except for one thing.
My security camera was no longer outside.
It was sitting on my kitchen table.
Still recording.
The final video file was created at 2:15 AM.
It showed me entering my house.
But I never went home.
And the person walking through my front door wasn't carrying the camera.
They were carrying me.
