The Tickling in Spain
This happened to me while I was traveling alone through the mountains of Catalonia, and to this day I still can't explain what happened that night. I had rented a small room in a remote hotel, the kind of place where the nearest town was miles away and the only sounds at night were the wind and the old building settling.
I remember locking the door before going to sleep. I checked it twice because I was alone and the location was so isolated. Everything felt normal until sometime in the middle of the night when I was suddenly woken up by a strange sensation.
Someone was touching my ankles.
At first, I was barely awake and thought I was dreaming. Then I felt it again, like fingers lightly brushing against my feet. Before I could fully process what was happening, I heard a woman's giggle coming from somewhere near the bed. It wasn't loud, but it was clear enough that I knew I wasn't imagining a random noise.
Still half asleep, I remember mumbling something like, "Stop it," almost as if I thought someone was playing a prank on me. The strange part was that I wasn't immediately terrified. My brain was still trying to make sense of it, searching for a normal explanation.
Then I woke up properly.
The room was completely silent. The lights were off, the door was still locked from the inside, and the bolt was exactly where I had left it. There was nowhere for anyone to have entered, and nobody else was staying in the room with me. I searched the entire place, checked under the bed, and looked through every corner, but there was nothing.
I spent the rest of the night awake, trying to convince myself it had been some kind of dream or a strange sleep-related experience. But the thing I couldn't forget was how real it felt. The sensation on my ankles, the sound of someone laughing, the certainty that someone was there.
Even now, I don't know whether I experienced something paranormal or whether my half-awake mind created something incredibly realistic. All I know is that I have stayed in many hotels since then, but I have never slept as comfortably in a room where I couldn't explain exactly what woke me up.
