The Voice That Came From Attic
Nobody believed me when I said the house was making sounds before we even moved in.
My parents thought I was just being dramatic.
The house was old, and old houses make noises.
That was their explanation.
We bought it in the middle of winter, and the first few weeks were normal. The place was bigger than our old home, with wooden floors, a basement, and a small attic that nobody used.
The attic was the only thing that bothered me.
The previous owner had left it completely empty.
No boxes.
No furniture.
Nothing.
But every night around 1:30 AM, I would hear footsteps above my bedroom.
Slow footsteps.
Like someone walking back and forth.
I told my parents, and they checked the attic several times.
Every time, they found nothing.
Eventually, they stopped taking me seriously.
So I decided to prove it.
I put my phone on a shelf in the attic and recorded the entire night.
The next morning, I checked the audio.
For hours, there was nothing.
Just silence.
Then, at exactly 1:32 AM, the recording changed.
The footsteps started.
Slow.
Heavy.
Walking directly above where my bedroom was.
I turned up the volume.
Then I heard something else.
A voice.
A man whispering.
At first, I couldn't understand what he was saying.
I replayed it over and over until I finally made out the words.
"He's sleeping."
I immediately felt sick.
Because the voice wasn't coming from the attic.
It sounded like it was coming from my bedroom.
I ran upstairs and checked the recording location.
The phone was still there.
But the strange part was that the attic door was locked.
From the outside.
I showed my parents the recording.
They finally believed me.
My dad called the previous owner to ask if he knew anything about the attic.
The man went silent.
Then he asked one question.
"Did you hear the voice?"
My dad said yes.
The previous owner told him something he never mentioned before.
Years earlier, when he lived there, he heard the same thing.
He thought someone was hiding in the attic.
He searched the entire house but found nothing.
Eventually, he moved out.
But before leaving, he removed the attic stairs.
He said he didn't want anyone going up there again.
My dad looked at the attic entrance.
The stairs were still there.
We had never installed them.
The previous owner had removed them.
At least, according to him.
The police came and inspected the house.
They found no hidden rooms.
No secret entrances.
No signs anyone had been living there.
We moved out two weeks later.
The house was sold almost immediately.
A few months after leaving, I searched the address online.
The listing photos had been updated.
The attic was no longer empty.
There was a small wooden chair sitting in the middle of the room.
Facing the camera.
On the chair was my old phone.
The same phone I left behind when we moved out.
And underneath it was a handwritten note.
"He's awake now."
