The Voice that saved me!!

When I was about 10 years old, I had always struggled with falling asleep. Nights felt long, and I would often lie awake in the dark, staring at the ceiling and waiting until exhaustion finally took over.

One night, I was lying in bed like usual. My hand was hanging over the edge of the mattress, resting in the small gap between the bed and the headboard.

I don't know why I left it there.

Maybe I was too tired to care.

Then it happened.

Something grabbed my hand.

At first, I thought I was imagining it. But the grip felt real. My hand was being pulled downward, slowly but firmly, as if something underneath the bed was trying to drag me closer.

Fear took over instantly.

I started screaming for my mom.

I prayed as hard as I could, repeating over and over that I needed help. I was terrified and couldn't understand what was happening. I pulled my hand back as hard as I could, but for those few seconds, it felt like something was actually holding on.

Eventually, my mom rushed into the room.

I immediately told her what happened.

She looked under the bed, checked around the room, and then gave me the explanation that made the most sense to her.

She said I was probably pulling on the mattress tag without realizing it.

Maybe she was right.

Maybe there was a simple explanation.

But I never forgot how real it felt.

Even now, decades later, I still can't sleep with any part of my body hanging over the edge of a mattress. That small gap beneath the bed still brings back the memory of that night.

But that wasn't the only strange thing that ever happened to me.

Years later, when I was 16, something happened that I still think about for a completely different reason.

I was driving around with my boyfriend late at night. I had a habit of staying out past my curfew, and usually my parents didn't know exactly when I came home.

That night was different.

For some reason, I suddenly wanted to go home.

I told my boyfriend to take me back.

He argued with me, telling me it was too early and trying to convince me to stay out longer. I kept insisting, but he wouldn't listen.

Then I heard it.

A woman's voice.

Right in my left ear.

It wasn't a whisper.

It wasn't a thought.

It was clear and firm.

"No."

The voice sounded urgent, almost like a warning.

Without even thinking, I looked at my boyfriend and said the same thing.

"No. Take me home."

This time, I didn't argue. I didn't explain. I just knew I needed to leave.

Eventually, he gave in and drove me home.

Five minutes after dropping me off, he got into a terrible car accident.

The crash was so severe that he went through the windshield.

Back then, cars didn't have the same safety features they do today. There were no airbags like modern vehicles, and seatbelts weren't always used the way they are now.

When I heard what happened, I couldn't stop thinking about that voice.

What if I had stayed?

What if I had ignored it?

I don't know where that voice came from.

I don't know who it belonged to.

But I believe it warned me for a reason.

The first voice terrified me.

The second one saved my life.

And to this day, I still listen when something inside me tells me no.
