We weren't expecting guests

Back in the 1980s, two brothers named Jack and Tom shared a house together. They had lived there long enough to know each other's habits, so nothing about the place usually surprised them. One night, Jack came home late and walked through the front door expecting the usual quiet house. Instead, he immediately noticed voices coming from the living room. When he looked inside, he saw a group of elderly people sitting together, casually talking as if they had been there for hours.

The strange part was how normal they seemed. They weren't acting like strangers who had broken into the house, they looked completely comfortable, sitting around and having a conversation. As Jack entered the room, every single person stopped talking and turned to look at him. Nobody said a word. They simply watched him silently as he walked past them toward his bedroom. Assuming they were Tom's friends or relatives, Jack didn't think much of it. He figured Tom had invited some older guests over and would explain later.

A few minutes passed before Tom came out of his room looking annoyed. He asked Jack if he could tell his friends in the living room to keep the noise down because he was trying to sleep. Jack immediately felt confused. "Your friends?" he asked. "The people sitting in there?" Tom looked at him like he had no idea what he was talking about. They both walked back into the living room together, expecting to find the group still there.

The room was completely empty. There was no sign that anyone had been there at all. No open doors, no footsteps, no explanation. The only thing left behind was a faint, unusual smell of musk lingering in the air. Jack and Tom searched the house, but they found nothing and had no idea who, or what, they had seen that night. Years later, they still couldn't explain why a group of strangers appeared in their living room, silently watched Jack walk by, and disappeared without leaving a trace.
